The Survivor Life Skills Program, is a training course that can be tailored to meet the needs of individual and groups of job seeker to train them in a number of different areas that will assist them in being job ready as well as overcoming some of the most common barriers to employment based on discussion with the Job Seekers EC. International research has shown that many long term job seekers lose confidence in themselves and their abilities, which can often be seen by potential employees in Interviews. The Survivor Life Skills course is designed to build up the confidence in Job Seekers and assist them to have a fresh approach to the way they portray themselves, and how they feel about themselves.
“The program was a reminder and a motivational tool. It has been a very positive experience just at the time one was needed!” Job Seeker- Employment Plus
“It helped me gain confidence in myself” Job Seeker- Employment Plus
The Survivor Life Skills Program has been designed for the learner and particular those who may have learning difficulties which in the past have prevented them from taking in vital information. “In-person” lectures Powerpoint illustration, Video presentations, individual writing in Workbooks and Practical activities are incorporated into the program. By varying the style of teaching, The Survivor Life Skills Program aims to assist all Job Seekers in whatever learning style they learn best from. Many programs do not offer this variation and so for example those individuals that may learn better from a visual teaching style rather than a verbal teaching style may not be able to assimilate the information.
Survivor Life Skills give job Seekers the un-biased facts as well as the skills needed to assist them to overcome many of the personal barriers to gaining and keeping employment, as identified by the Government in the New Employment Services program.
Drawing on the Professional qualifications and real Work place skills and experiences of a Financial Adviser, Recruiting Manager, Lawyer, Finance Literacy Lecturer ,Psychologist, Counsellor, Teacher, Physiotherapist and Speaking Coach, The Business Concierge have devised a Program that is able to specialise in a number of vital Life Skills areas for Job Seekers, as well as being able to assist Job Seekers and E.C’s in identifying any underlying issues that might become apparent and give assistance in referring Job Seekers to internal or Community agencies where relevant.
The Survivor Life Skills program has been created in such a way that each program can be tailored to meet specific needs of each group of Job Seekers at a particular site. The booking Manager or E.C can choose from a wide range of subjects(See Appendix A) within our moduled course, in order to assist specific Job Seekers to gain skills and knowledge that may be a personal barrier to them, and holding them back from gaining and keeping employment.
The Survivor Life Skills Course has many practical activities within modules to physically get them to complete the skills they have just learnt about. Two examples of this are
· completing a poster sized budget in a small group using a made up person’s financial situation
· Physically going through from start to end a relaxation technique that Job Seekers can do themselves to assist with stress.
The Survivor Life Skills Program is designed to run in conjunction with Employment Service Providers contractually agreed subject matter that they impart to Job Seekers.
The Business Concierge programs have been run in Correction Centres, in areas of entrenched disadvantage as well as all Indigenous communities. The program has been running in over 400 schools across NSW and QLD over the last 5 years both in CBD and rural areas. This program has been highly successful in each of these environments which allows The Survivor Life Skills Program to be able to run in all Employment Service Providers sites, unlike many other companies and programs that pick and choose the areas they are willing to run their programs in.
At the completion of each 2 day course, each Job Seeker will have a bound Workbook that has been tailored to the course they completed. They will have been encouraged to write extra notes within the book. This becomes a valuable resource and reminder to them in the future when completing tasks or making decisions. They will also have a laminated certificate that outlines the modules that they have completed for them to put in their CV.
